I Think I Can...I Think I Can...I Think I Can
I've always loved that story of The Little Engine That Could. The whole idea of the littlest engine being given a huge job is exciting. He's so small in his eyes and the eyes of others yet his little size makes the story so wonderful. It’s David facing Goliath. It’s you or me facing things we don't know how we will conquer. Through it we see that God is able to work with the small, the least, the weak. He actually says that through our weakness He is strong. He delights to amaze us and do what we can't. He puts his super on our natural. There have been many times when I have disqualified myself even my family from this missionary track. Then the Lord comes and tells me, “You, I can work with." Its then that I am reminded that it is not about the goodness or mightiness of me but about Him and how He looks for those who are poor in spirit enough to need Him. It is then that the kingdom of heaven opens up and the ordinary can be extraordinary. Here we are chugging up our little mountains saying "I think I can, He has promised me I can..." and all along His hand is behind us pushing us up these mountains that really our engines couldn't climb. It's His goodness and His grace on us that makes it possible. We begin to do things that are radical for Him. We cross mountains, get through valleys, and chug through deserts. Many times when one task is finished we see a new mountain and the saying starts again..."I think I can, I think I can, with God I can...."
Somewhere in the journey of it all we stop despising our smallness and look only towards His greatness. We say, "Look at what amazing things you did Lord. How was it that I even got to play a part?" Then you realize that it really is His joy to give you the kingdom. That a little is much with the Lord. After all, He's the one that created the tiny seed, knowing that through it a harvest would come. He delights in doing much with a little.
